Dual-Curing Cements

Dual-curing cements are highly versatile dental materials that combine the advantages of light-curing and self-curing technologies, ensuring complete and reliable polymerization in all clinical situations. This makes them particularly effective for cementing restorations in areas where light may not reach adequately, such as thick ceramic crowns, deep cavities, or opaque posts. The dual-curing mechanism allows clinicians to benefit from extended working time and immediate set control when light is applied. These cements offer strong and durable adhesion to enamel, dentin, metals, ceramics, and composite materials, making them ideal for a wide range of indirect restorations including crowns, bridges, inlays, onlays, and endodontic posts.

Dual-curing cements also provide excellent marginal adaptation, reducing the risk of microleakage and secondary caries. Their biocompatible formulations ensure patient comfort and safety while delivering long-term clinical success. Whether used in adhesive or self-adhesive techniques, dual-curing cements are an essential part of modern restorative dentistry.

Glass Ionomer Cements

Glass Ionomer Cements (GICs) are versatile dental materials widely used in restorative dentistry for their chemical bonding ability and biocompatibility. Composed of a silicate glass powder and polyacrylic acid, GICs form a strong ionic bond with enamel and dentin without the need for adhesive agents. They are ideal for restoring cervical lesions, deciduous teeth, and as liners or bases under composite restorations.

One of their key benefits is the sustained release of fluoride, which helps prevent secondary caries and supports remineralization. GICs also offer excellent marginal sealing, reducing the risk of microleakage. Their thermal expansion is similar to natural tooth structure, minimizing stress during temperature changes.

Although not as strong as resin-based composites, modern formulations of GICs have improved wear resistance and handling. With easy placement, minimal moisture sensitivity, and long-term fluoride release, Glass Ionomer Cements remain a reliable and patient-friendly choice for everyday clinical use.
